Viewing Usage Metrics for Storage
View the current usage details and the available capacity in TiB for Block Storage, Object Storage, and File Storage services in Control Center.
- Block Storage: Specifies the usage of Block Storage volumes, for example, attaching a block volume to a VM instance. See Overview of Block Volume.
- Object Storage: Specifies the usage of any type of data, regardless of content type, for example, backups. See Overview of Object Storage.
- File Storage: Specifies the usage of file systems. See Overview of File Storage.
- Open the navigation menu and select Governance & Administration. Under Control Center, select the relevant storage option. The selected storage page for Control Center opens. Your current region is displayed at the upper right of the Console. If your tenancy is subscribed to several regions, you can switch regions by selecting a different region from the Regions menu. To limit items in the list, see Filtering List Results.
Following are tasks you can do with storage metrics in Control Center.
Filtering Storage Information
Filter information for the selected storage service to refine its data and charts. Viewing the Current Snapshot
Find the current usage and the available capacity in TiB from the Current Snapshot graph. Data depends on filter options.
The usage is calculated based on an hourly usage average for a specific day. Usage includes the following details:
- Overhead: Represents the capacity required to manage storage. It displays the capacity required for synchronous replication and high availability fail-over that keeps the data safe and available.
- OCI usage: Represents only control plane usage, and there is no usage consumed for PaaS services.
- Customer usage: Represents the actual usage and no extra usages.
- Available: Represents the total capacity that's available to you in a specific environment. No usage is consumed by the fault domain.
On the Control Center storage page, find the Current Snapshot graph. If you need help finding this page, see Using the Console.Viewing Usage by Tenancy
Find storage usage by the customer tenancy. On the Control Center storage page, expand usage by tenancy (labeled for the selected storage service). If you need help finding this page, see Using the Console. Data depends on filter options.Viewing Historical Charts and Organic Forecasting
Historical data represents the consumption of all overhead usage, OCI usage, customer usage, and available capacity in the last 30 days by default. Enable organic forecasting and find the usage projection based on heuristic. Exporting the Storage Details
You can export the storage details from the Console to Excel, CSV, or PPTX.
Tip
Consider filtering storage details to refine the data and charts before exporting. For instructions, see Filtering Storage Information.- On the upper right of the shape details page, select Export.
- In the Export dialog box, select the format that you want.
- Select Confirm.
Filtering List Results
Use filters to limit the items in a list, such as usage information in the Current snapshot - List View section.
From the Search and Filter box above the list table, select one or more filters and specify the values that you want to use to narrow the list. In general, the filters correspond to the columns shown in the list table, although some filters represent attributes that aren't shown in the table. The Compartment filter is always displayed next to Applied filters.
Change the order of the items in the list table by using the sort icons next to the column names.
For information about searching for resources and managing the columns in the list table, see Listing Resources.
Use the list command and required parameters to list the available source services (namespaces) emitting metrics:

Run the
RequestSummarizedMetricDataoperation to view the usage details of Block Storage, Object Storage, or File Storage service.
